Billy Joel married the supermodel less than two years after this song came out. But he wasn’t even DATING her when he started writing the song. He was actually dating a DIFFERENT supermodel. Elle Macpherson.
Billy explained that when he and Elle broke up, and he started dating Christie Brinkley, he re-wrote the lyrics and by the time it was done, the song was about Christie.
