NEW MUSIC MONDAY
NEW MUSIC MONDAY – Alessia Cara, Elysia Biro And Siibii
As we get closer to this weekend’s Juno’s — let’s throw you three new CANADIAN tracks from three amazing Canadian artists.
Alessia Cara gives us a brand new album – Love OR Lack Thereof. What’s different about this album? Alessia has taken her 12 of her previous songs, and has turned them into jazz and soul-inspired versions of those original songs. To go with the album, a series of live-in-studio videos is being released for each track. The album also features collaborations with GRAMMY Award–winners Norah Jones and Nelly Furtado.
GRAMMY Award–winner Norah Jones is featured on the single “I’m In Trouble”.
Elysia Biro was raised on Vancouver Island and classically trained in piano and voice. Her songwriting blends pop and jazz and weaves lyrical melodies that speak directly to themes of love, self-discovery, and the heartache of growing up. Elysia now lives in LA and is working towards releasing music later this year!
“Gentleman Blue” was inspired by an experience Elysia had on her birthday. “I’ve always worried about getting older, even back when I was 5 or 6 years old,” she shares. “I always feel weird around my birthday but this year, I saw this beautiful older woman dancing like she didn’t have a care in the world, and I was inspired to write a song about incredible, powerful women who have embraced getting older. I wrote about the realization that we are all growing, and embracing the privilege it is to grow. It felt like a relief somehow, to let a bit of that worry go.”
Siibii is an Indigenous Montreal-based artist who goes into Sunday’s Juno’s with a nomination for Contemporary Indigenous Artist or Group of the Year and will also be performing!
Don’t Wake Me Up” speaks to the complicated comfort of familiar pain. It’s about knowing someone is going to leave—because they always do—but still choosing to hold onto the quiet moments before the inevitable goodbye
