A Question For The Ladies

Ladies, I want to know,  how do you feel about makeup? Do you wear it? Do you feel comfortable NOT wearing it?

Is makeup a tool? Is it comfort? Do you ever leave the house without it?

I don’t wear a lot of makeup (mostly because I’ve never really learned to apply it well) but I almost always have something on.  Foundation, concealer (more so as I’ve gotten older), maybe a little eye shadow and mascara is a must.  Mostly because one of the things you don’t realize until it happens, is your eyelashes AND eyebrows seem to disappear as you get older. (smile)

I think for me, my makeup can be a security blanket.  I feel more confident and more comfortable when I have something on my face.  I have always felt insecure with my skin and makeup for me helps me feel a bit better about myself and I’ll say it’s like an outfit, it helps me feel “put together” most days.

But I also know that when I’m on vacation or when I’m camping, and I go days without it – I feel really good too.  There’s a freedom in not wearing it and just being your complete self.

So I was excited to see this upcoming episode of The Drew Barrymore Show which featured guest Pamela Anderson, where she and Drew and Valeri Bertinelli appeared with no makeup.

Pamela Anderson discusses how she has felt she was “playing characters my whole life” because she was so shy.  She felt like she was pretending to be someone else all the years she played the role of actress, tv star, rock star wife etc and it took her years to realize she didn’t know who she was after pretending to be someone else for so long to please other people.

She bought her grandmothers farm and started working in the garden and started going without makeup.  She stopped PRETENDING to be someone else and started figuring out who SHE really was.

It’s inspiring to watch and I can’t wait to see the full episode.
