The View From Here – Tuesdays With Morrie And Other Fun Things
It feels good to be back!
After a week vacation and a bit of an escape from the every day – it’s good to be back into routine. For the most part (smile). The sign of a good vacation is forgetting what you do every day, right? It’s a sign you’ve left work behind and focused on the fun things in front of you.
We went camping at the Pinery last week which was good for the most part. The only exception was the 10 hours of torrential downpours that flooded many sites. We were in tents and thankfully we stayed dry. Sitting under a tarp watching the rain fall for hours sure gives you a chance to think (smile). Once the weather cleared we had a great time. Bike rides and cornhole and even a little game of badminton. The Pinery is a beautiful campground. Fun fact about the Pinery – for whatever reason – there wasn’t a single mosquito to be found anywhere we went. And we’ve camped there more than once. Not ONE MOSQUITO! How do they do it? What is their secret? Because I can’t sit outside in my backyard for more than five minutes without being attacked.
I’m excited that it’s corn season. Peaches are in season and so is the muskmelon. That’s what I call it because that’s what I grew up with. Maybe you call it cantaloupe. Is there a difference?
I’ll have to ask Google for that one. Either way it’s my favourite time of year for fresh foods! I love corn on the cob and peaches and muskmelon (which my grandparents taught us to eat with a sprinkle of salt – it sounds awful but it’s really tasty!) I actually bought extra corn and boiled it up, cut the kernals off the cobs and threw it in the freezer. YUM.
Last night I got to see Tuesdays With Morrie at the VPP in Petrolia. What a spectacular show!
I know that normally we like to go out and see a show for the feel good and the laughs. This was different. This one was an emotional journey and the actors were incredible. Did I cry? Absolutely I did. Tuesdays with Morrie is the heartwarming true story of Mitch Albom and his former college professor, Morrie Schwartz. Together, they go on a journey where they look at what matters most. Love, family, relationships and more.
The show stars Keith Savage as Morrie and Michael Vanhevel as Mitch. My heart wasn’t prepared for just how moving these two were. Exceptional talent. Keith portrayed the role of Morrie, who suffers from ALS, so well.
It’s a heartbreaking but beautiful story. One of those plays that will stay with me right down to the very last line about the power of love and being a good person.
Well done.
Tuesdays With Morrie continues at the VPP until August 18th. If you get the chance to see this amazing show – I highly encourage you to do so.
