This 13 Year Old Just BEAT Tetris

I’m amazed and so impressed.  13 year old Willis Gibson just managed to actually BEAT the game of Tetris.  First of all, I didn’t know that you COULD.

Anytime I ever played the game I would do okay for a few levels, and then those blocks would come so fast it was game over.  No other game could cause so much competitiveness and frustration at the same time.  Every time you lost you knew you had to try again.

A bit of history on the game of Tetris – created in 1985 by Alexey Pajitnov, a Soviet software engineer.  It’s been published by a number of companies over multiple platforms, probably most famously known on Nintendo.

In the game of Tetris, players work to complete lines by moving differently shaped pieces into place.  Fun fact – those odd shaped pieces are called Tetrominoes.  Who knew.

The whole idea of the game seems easy.  The problem is, as you complete lines, and move up in levels, the game gets faster and faster, and before you know it, you’ve built a tower and the game is over because there is no more room to move.

It is one of the best-selling video game franchises. It’s available on over 65 platforms, setting a Guiness world record for the most ported video game.  (the process of adapting software for the purpose of achieving some form of execution in a computing environment that is different from the one that a given program was originally designed for.)

For some reason I didn’t ever think about there being a way to beat the game or actually BREAK it.  But that’s what happened.

I would have assumed I broke something.  I never would have assumed I did something amazing like beat the game.
