World Suicide Prevention Day began in 2003 on the 10th of September by the International Association for Suicide Prevention, endorsed by the World Health Organization.  It has become a day each year dedicated to focusing attention on the problems of suicide around the world.

There is  a free online event you can attend this year on Saturday September 9th.   Find out more by visiting the World Suicide Prevention website.

In Sarnia there is a cruise with Canadian group See Spot Run on Sunday on the Duc D’Orleans III being held in support of Three Oaks Cabin, a respite cabin for Farmers and First Responders, currently under construction in Southwestern Ontario.

Find out more by visiting Project Mental Wellness.

If you aren’t aware of what Project Mental Wellness is – take a look.  It was founded by Leanne Fera after losing her husband Len to suicide in March 2022.  Leanne is taking tragedy and using her voice to help others.   She is advocating for mental health.  She is speaking up and speaking out to help others before it’s too late.

Their mission –

“Project Mental Wellness believes that mental health is just as important as physical health and should be prioritized in all aspects of life. Our goal is to break down the stigma surrounding mental health by providing education, support and access to resources for those who need it. We are committed to fostering a community where mental health is openly discussed and individuals are empowered to seek help without fear of judgement or discrimination.”

Mental Health Matters –

It’s so important for us to maintain good mental health and prevent a mental health crisis. Don’t be afraid to reach out for help.  Regular counselling, therapy, and mindfulness practices are important.
