The View From Here – Checking In

Happy Monday friends!

I hope your day is going well and hope you had a wonderful weekend.

I had the day to myself Friday and I took myself to the water.  I sat on a bench along the St. Clair River and read a book, sipping a fancy overpriced coffee.  One of those things I’ve always wanted to make time to do and never have done.  I see people sitting in lawn chairs, having picnics all the time and I’ve always thought “I want to do that” and I guess I’ve been waiting for someone who wants to do it too.  Instead, I took some time to do it myself.  And it was so nice.  I encourage you to do things for you.  Don’t wait to do it with someone.  Just do the thing you want to do and don’t worry about it.

I wanted to go to the Pancake Breakfast under the bridges, but my husband plays baseball and he had a really fun tournament this weekend in Parkhill.  I’ve actually never been to Parkhill.  Aside from construction on the main street, it was a beautiful place.  We ate at a really nice little restaurant for lunch.  Niko’s. I ate spanakopita – which I’d never had.  Had to Google what it is – Spanakopita is a delicious savory Greek pie made of perfectly crispy layers of phyllo dough and a comforting filling of spinach and feta cheese.  It was incredibly delicious and I thank the lovely waitresses for the recommendation.  4 games of baseball over 12 hours.  If nothing else, it was a reminder of why I don’t “sport”.  (smile)  It’s a whole level of athletics that I cannot compete with.

I’ve watched Mind Your Manners, How To Get Rich, and the Lewis Capaldi documentary on Netflix.  I haven’t missed an episode of the Young and the Restless since the pandemic locked us up at home.  The storylines are ridiculous and the characters haven’t changed much in the years I’ve stopped watching, but I can’t seem to stop watching.  It’s how I shut out the world at the end of the day.

Summer so far has been quiet.  And that’s okay.

My grey hair is now in control and has all the say.  And I’ve learned that grey hair changes – when I got my hair cut recently I was told “You have such natural wave” and I was shocked.  Because all my life I’ve fought my straight hair.  I used to spend so much time and effort to get a little curl in it.  Now that they grey has taken over, it’s wavy.  Unruly.  There are some pieces that don’t want to stay in place no matter what products are used.  Who knew.   So now I’m fighting my wave to keep it straight?  What a mixed up age this is.

I’ve learning how to balance hormones with food because any woman who hits this stage in life knows how unpredictable it is.  Emotions all over the place.  Weight gain.  Forgetfulness.  Hot flashes.  All very real and all very different for each and every one of us.  All I know is that certain foods have a greater impact on our health.  The more “clean” it is the better it is for our bodies and our hormones.  So much to learn.

That’s it.  That’s all I got.  That’s my update for you.  I’ve missed sharing life with you on a more regular basis.  I’ll try to do better.

Your turn.  Keep me up to date on how you are doing and how you are making the most out of your summer.  Email me anytime – [email protected].
