New Music Monday – Billie Eilish

When I first listened to this song I felt sad, but hopeful.  Watching the video, I felt it was even more haunting.  To listen to Billie Eilish sing of going back to a sad space, wanting to be happy but not knowing how, but still feeling hopeful it’s possible. Billie directed the video by the way.

It’s an emotional song.  I’ve always appreciated the talent Billie has.  It’s unusual and impossible to fit her into any modern box.  She is unique and one of a kind and writes from the heart along with her brother Finneas.

“What Was I Made For?” comes from the “Barbie” movie soundtrack.  It was written especially for the movie by Billie and her brother Finneas who produced the track in his home studio in Los Angeles.  And from what I understand, once we get to see the movie in theatres, we will understand the song that much more.  The song is part of pivotal scenes throughout the film, highlighting the film’s important message and meaning.

On making the song and music video, Eilish shared to her fans “to be real with you this all seemed to happen in a time when I really needed it.  I’m so so thankful for that.”  Read the full statement HERE.

“To live in Barbie Land is to be a perfect being in a perfect place. Unless you have a full-on existential crisis. Or you’re a Ken”  It gives off a Stepford Wives kinda vibe.  Or that the Don’t Worry Darlin movie where people are living in a separate dimension and trying to escape.

The Barbie movie comes out July  21.  Will you be going?
