Movie Review – Sound Of Freedom

Normally we go to the movies as an escape from reality.   We usually go to be entertained.  We’re hoping to laugh a little, maybe cry a little.  We go for the popcorn and social time.

Sound of Freedom is a different movie.  My heart breaks at the thought that this kind of thing is happening in our world.   And it’s not a small thing either.

A moving film.  The audience in the theatre was quiet last night.  There was applause as the credits rolled, but then silence as everyone left the theatre.  Feeling a bit overwhelmed maybe?  Feeling the need to do something.  To make a change.   Not knowing how to do anything.

The reality is, human trafficking is real. And it is a worldwide problem.   We think we are invincible. We think “not in our community.”

This film took years to get it to the big screen.  Studios refused it.  Money was lost.   But those responsible wanted to be sure the message got out.

The film is the story of a brother and sister. Lured into thinking they had talent and would have a chance at fame.  A father unknowingly allows his kids to go to a seemingly harmless audition, only to realize they were gone.

The movie based on a true story.  The characters are real.  The story is real.   As one review reads “This powerful film not only sheds light on the horrific reality of human trafficking but also showcases the unwavering courage and determination of individuals fighting to protect innocent lives.”

Such an emotional, moving film.  It took me a long time to process the reality of it.  I sat with so many feelings last night.  Not knowing what exactly to do.

If you get the chance – go see Sound of Freedom.

We fight the darkness by being a light in the world.  That’s the message at the end.  A powerful message by the star of the movie Jim Caviezel.  Who encourages us to bring hope to the world.  To share and to be aware.
