New Music Monday – Amanda Marshall Is Back

It’s been a long time since we’ve heard anything new from Amanda Marshall.

Until now.

Two Two decades after leaving the music scene, Amanda Marshall is ready for her comeback.  The Toronto singer-songwriter, known for her ’90’s hits “Let It Rain” and “Birmingham” just released a new single with plans for an album and tour this summer.

She says it’s taken so long because of a battle with her former manager dragged on for the better part of 12 years, and then the pandemic put a stop to her planned return as well.

Amanda is 50 years old now.  She says decades off the road allowed her to learn and enjoy a simpler life.  She’s learned to like cooking for herself and paying her own bills.

Her new single “I Hope She Cheats” is a cover of a track originally recorded by Marsha Ambrosius of Floetry, but in her version she adds a more playful and bluesy spin.

When asked about the song, Amanda Marshall says :

“This song is mean. The lyric is cutting, and brilliantly funny — a bitter swipe at an ex. But a closer listen reveals a deeper underlying mix of melancholy and longing for what might have been. It’s about knowing what’s real and true, and most of all, knowing your own value.

We pick ourselves up. We start over. We bounce back. We are resilient. …But sometimes, it’s ok to whisper ‘I hope she cheats” to no one in particular.”

Amanda is on tour this summer – the 25 & Counting: The Heavy Lifting Tour comes to Massey Hall in Toronto June 16th and she will be at Budweiser Gardens in London on June 18th.
