This Day In Music – Beatlemania
Oh how I wish I was there for Beatlemania. Can you imagine what it would have been like? I grew up listening to the Beatles -thanks to mom who loved to play their records. I can’t imagine what it would have been like to be in the room to hear them perform. The energy of the crowds. The deafening screams.
It was this day in 1964, thanks to media coverage and a publicity campaign by Capitol Records, thousands of screaming fans were there to greet The Beatles when their plane lands in New York at 1:20 p.m.
It’s those scenes that have lived on in history. Beatlemania.
At the time, the Beatles have the #1 song in the country with “I Want to Hold Your Hand” and it’s their first trip to the U.S.
As soon as they land the The Beatles were driven straight to the Warwick Hotel where they hold a press conference for around 250 reporters.

Lennon: No, it’s great…. We like lunatics.
Reporter: In Detroit Michigan, they’re handing out car stickers saying, ‘Stamp Out The Beatles.’
Paul: Well, we’re bringing out a Stamp Out Detroit campaign.
