New Music Monday – Harry Styles
What do you think of the latest single to come from Harry Styles?
“As it Was” is the first single to come from his upcoming album “Harry’s House” set for release on May 20th. Lots of excitement for the song already. It broke the Guiness World Record for most streamed track on Spotify within 24 hours by a male artist. It broke the Apple Music streaming record for most first day streams in 2022.
The music video was directed by Ukrainian Tanu Muino. A music video director, designer, stylist, photographer and film director, who described her experience as bittersweet because even though working with Harry was “a bucket list dream come true”, her home country of Ukraine was invaded on the second day of shooting. She says they “poured so much love into this video and you can see it on screen. It will be a music video I will never forget and now I can happily retire.”
So much fun to watch the video. And can we talk about that red jumpsuit? Harry reportedly took inspiration from Rolling Stones frontman Sir Mick Jagger for the sparkling red jumpsuit. The former One Direction star spent hours with his fashion designer looking over past outfits to get the look just right. Harry has previously described Mick Jagger as the “coolest man on the planet” and is inspired by his fashion. Harry says he isn’t bothered by societal gender norms and is comfortable wearing whatever clothes make him happy.
He told the Guardian: ‘What women wear. What men wear. For me it’s not a question of that. ‘If I see a nice shirt and get told, “But it’s for ladies.” I think, “Okaaaay? Doesn’t make me want to wear it less though.”
‘I think the moment you feel more comfortable with yourself, it all becomes a lot easier.’
