The View From Here – Life With A New Puppy

I feel like a new parent again.  Our little Maggie May, the latest edition to our family, is proving to be a challenge.  But in the very best of ways.  I forgot how busy puppies were.  And how very sharp their teeth are.  I also didn’t know their eyes change colours as they get older sometimes, like babies do.  Her eyes were blue when we brought her home.  Now they’re a beautiful green/brown colour.

She is a husky/lab mix and is just shy of three months old.  She is busy.  Boy is she busy.   It’s been a long time since I’ve had to “child proof” a home.  Now I’m doing it all over again for a puppy who seems to find the smallest of things to chew on.

We’re hiding shoes and slippers.  Some are placed up high on chairs and tables.  An odd shoe here and there that she manages to find and drag from room to room.  She has her own toys.  She just seems to love our stuff more.

We have nose prints on our back door.  We have paw prints all through the house.  And if I try to sweep, she attacks the broom.  If I try to mop she attacks that too.  It seems the broom is a toy for her to chase around.  Catching the pile of dirt seems to be even more fun.  An endless cycle of trying to clean up around her.   The mop is her enemy.  She actually barks at it.  Not sure what the difference is.  We find our clothes stolen and hidden under the bed.  Always a surprise. (smile)

Either way, to look at the house right now, you can’t help but laugh at the destruction she leaves behind.  (smile).  It’s all good.

I’ve grown incredibly attached to this little fur baby who is growing oh so quickly.  She’s learned to sit and shake a paw – which has us gushing like proud parents.   She loves to walk and chase leaves that blow in the wind and seems to love pinecones.

And she’s developed a love of “pruning” my plants.  By that I mean she loves to chomp on them.  And the dirt they grow in.  I have enough trouble keeping plants alive in my care.

But she is adorable.  And growing too fast.

I love to have her come running to the door when I come home at the end of the day, or when she comes running when I wake up and come walking down the stairs, even if she’s chewing the bottom of my pj pants the whole way – the best feeling ever.

In a time where there’s so much going on around us, getting Maggie May was the best decision ever.  She brings so much happiness to our home.  Pretty sure our cat would disagree on that.  But he’ll come around eventually.  (smile) She brings so much love.  Even if she shows it most by biting everything around her right now, including us.  (smile)
