Feel Good Friday – World Kindness Day – Call A Caregiver
It’s another Feel Good Friday – together with the Canadian Mental Health Association Lambton Kent. Today also happens to be “World Kindness Day” a day where you are encouraged to spread some kindness. Do a random act of kindness for someone. Send a text or email or letter! Compliment someone you know, or a stranger! Give up your spot in line at the store to let someone go ahead of you. Buy someone a cup of coffee.
The CMHA is sharing a message from the Ontario Caregivers Association – #callacaregiver
“The Ontario Caregiver Organization is here to support Ontario’s 3.3 million caregivers. Caregivers may not always reach out for support, and many feel that while family and friends ask about how their care recipient is doing, they don’t always think to ask how the caregiver themselves is doing. Caregivers have shared with us that a simple gesture, such as a phone call asking them how they’re doing, can make a big difference in their day. That’s why for Kindness Day, we’re inviting everyone to call a caregiver they know just to check in and let them know they care.”
So important. My second mom has been taking care of my dad since his surgery and I am also asking what I can do for her. She might not be a doctor or a nurse or have some fancy degree to her name – but she’s doing the hard work. And this pandemic is keeping me away and from helping. It’s hard on people when they are responsible for taking care of others. Not that they don’t love to do it – but it’s work that needs recognizing and we need to make sure they are doing okay.
So – today – on World Kindness Day – reach out to those caregivers who are doing their best and giving their all to take care of our loved ones. They sure need it.
