How Do You Celebrate?
My youngest daughter – my BABY – turned 14 yesterday. I spent the day looking through all the old pictures. She was both embarrassed and curious.
This picture (below) is one of my favourites. I think she was two. So I asked her to recreate it. Or give it a good shot.
She laughed at me as I attempted it. Then she did what she always does – took charge – and took control over the photo process. I love that we have this.
For the past few weeks she’s been feeling the disappointment “can’t wait to celebrate my quarantine birthday”.
She had wanted more. She wanted to spend the day with her friends. She wanted big things.
So we had to make it special in our own way and it didn’t turn out so bad.
I would say it was simple in the way it used to be. At least for me.
We had cake, presents, but overall we had each other. We had family time. We had a day of sharing memories, and looking through pictures.
One of my favourite things to give her this year I had made. It was very last minute. I saw a picture online and reached out to a friend of mine who runs Zurora Design Studio.
Let me just tell you – it was done so quickly and it looked AMAZING.
I couldn’t wait to show her. I couldn’t wait to see her face.
She couldn’t stop smiling when she opened it. She wore it all day. She took pictures. Shared it with her friends online.
It will certainly go down as a birthday to remember.
Our next order goes in tomorrow – “Bro – I’m an essential” – for my daughter’s boyfriend who has been working a crazy amount of hours at a grocery store. A gift to let him know he’s appreciated.
He should be in school. Instead he’s getting full time hours and then some.
