Dear George, Can I Be Excused?
There is this “thing” I want to do, and it’s tomorrow, and I may have to leave work for a day, or two.
I know, it’s last minute.
But, you see, my favourite band of all-time – Duran Duran — are going to be a part of something big. But it’s tomorrow. And it’s in Florida. And I kinda want to go.
It will be 50 years tomorrow (July 16th) that the world-famous Apollo 11 mission took place. That world famous mission when two men, would become the first to walk on the moon. When Neil Armstrong would utter that phrase that remains one of history’s most famous one-liners “One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind”.
Astronauts Buzz Aldrin and Neil Armstrong became instant celebrities, as they were on the spaceflight that launched on July 16th, 1969, from the Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Florida. They took their first steps – on the moon – just four days later on July 20.
“The mission is one of the biggest events in the history of space and gave us a completely new perspective on our place in the universe,” “It also paved the way for future space exploration and opened the door to boundless curiosity and discovery about space.”
It was a very big deal and a huge moment in history, so it’s no surprise there are literally hundreds of events and celebrations happening to honour the date.
One of them is happening AT the Kennedy Space Center and that’s why I would like to be excused from work tomorrow.
Please? Pretty please? Consider it a work trip? A “learning” experience?
And I may need a chaperone if anybody else is available.
Duran Duran have been invited to perform in the Rocket Garden at Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex for a once-in-a-lifetime concert celebrating the historic Apollo 11 launch. Duran Duran will begin a full performance at 10:30 PM. For this special tribute, part of their set will accompanied by a breathtaking drone art performance by Studio Drift.
The band is thrilled to be asked. I would be thrilled to go. And be a part of history. You know, for the learning. (smile)
