I Don’t Want It To End

Sarnia Dancing With The Stars is THIS Saturday night.  All I can think about are steps and counts. All I want to do is practice and that makes for a very distracted person right now.

Getting to dance like this is a chance of a lifetime. I never knew how much I would love it. I never knew how much I really wanted to do it until I look at how close we are to it being over. I don’t want it to end.

I can’t believe we are this close. It feels like I just met my dance partner yesterday.  Brian Slaughter – you inspire me and impress me.  I was reminded this weekend that Brian is NOT a dance instructor like the other pros in this competition.  He had to learn the dances himself and then he had to put the work in to teach ME.  For Brian it comes easily. For me, I tend to get stuck over thinking every step.  He can watch a video a few times and know what to do next.  I like to hit pause, look, analyze and then immediately think “nope – I can’t do THAT!”

I’m sure his patience has been tested.  So think of that as you watch us do our two dances that we have worked months to put together.  He doesn’t own his own dance studio. He is a fitness instructor – a good one.  But not a dancer. He is not professionally trained. All that we’ve learned – he had to learn first. Pretty amazing because he makes it look easy.

One thing I know is this has tested my belief in myself.  I have struggled so much with insecurity and doubt.  I have looked at my life, like looking in the review mirror.  All the ups and downs. The hard stuff.  The people.  Me.  We can certainly be our own worst critic and worst enemy.  I’ve looked at myself and my life differently.

As we finished our last Sunday practice together, for the first time – I felt like everything clicked. All the practices. All the hard work.  All those nights learning.  I couldn’t stop smiling. It felt AMAZING to run through it and actually begin to enjoy it for what it is – and not be counting steps in your head, staring at your feet.

Sarnia Dancing With The Stars is going to be an incredible night for all of us. Each of us dancing will have their own story to tell and share. Each of us will have had a different experience.

I am super thankful and grateful for the opportunity to help out Community Concerns for the Medically Fragile and to be part of such an incredible event. Sparkling reception, h’ors doevres, a silent auction, live music, dancing – and a chance to actually walk away a winner.  I feel like we’ve already won. The experience is beyond words. Incredible.
