Mindy Kaling Asks Grads One Question

Why Not Me?

Those three words made a big impact on graduates at Dartmouth College as Mindy Kaling went back to her alma mater to speak at the commencement ceremonies.

When you think back to your high school or college graduation – what do you remember most?  I think I was solely focused on not falling on my face walking across the stage to pick up my diploma – but I wish I had someone like Mindy kaling come and speak words of inspiration and humour.

Mindy Kaling told students the secret to success in such instability, was a delusional sense of confidence. “You have to have insane confidence in yourself — even if it’s not real,” “You need to be your own cheerleader now.” But in the more serious part of her speech, she encouraged graduates to ask themselves WHY NOT ME – (the title of her own book).

Ask yourself “why not me” when pursuing their goals. “I was not someone who should have the life I have now, and yet I do,” she said. “I was sitting in the chair you are literally sitting in right now and I just whispered, ‘Why not me?’ And I kept whispering it for 17 years.”
