5-Year-Old Saves Christmas

It’s the story of a 5 year old boy who knew he had to save Christmas. From the Grinch.

On Saturday, TyLon Pittman, a little boy from Mississippi watched some videos about the Grinch stealing Christmas and he did what you’re supposed to do when someone’s stealing things: He called 911.

His dad tried to apologize to the dispatcher for his son playing with the phone.

What happened next? When the family heard someone at the door late Saturday night, and then saw a flashlight outside, they didn’t know what to think. The Grinch?

When they finally answered the door, there was officer Lauren Develle, who had heard about TyLon amd wanted to make sure he knew his holiday was safe. She asked, “So what are you going to do if he tries to steal your Christmas?”  He replied “I want y’all to come back to my house and take him to jail,”

When asked what he would do if he saw the Grinch, Tylon said “I’m going to say put your hands behind your back and get down on the ground, then when he gets on the ground, I’m gonna say, ‘Why are you stealing Christmas?’”

On Monday, TyLon got his chance to question the Grinch.

The Grinch could be charged with various crimes, including attempted theft of Christmas, Develle said. It wasn’t as much about charging him for his wrongdoing as keeping a promise to her new friend.

The Grinch took the boys hand and said, “You have saved Christmas for the people of Byram. Your bravery is unmatched. You have saved the day.”

At the end of the day, TyLon was given a Grinch doll so he could always remember the day by
Byram Police Chief Luke Thompson who also made a promise to Ty, who wants to be a police officer when he grows up.  “When you turn 21, come back and I’m going to give you a job application, OK?”

Thank you TyLon for saving Christmas!
